I Came Across No One on My Journey

I came across no one on my journey
and somehow that was just fitting
as if everyone never existed

passed where the old house no longer stands
just as memories fade and get twisted out of shape

headed down the alleyway
passed the dead end that meant so much

passed by the houses of the few I knew
before I managed to repel everyone

passed by the back of the elementary school
passed by my "friend" the fence
 but walking along the boundary
retreating as far as I could from the crowds
was the only peace I could find
as I became considered too strange

rode back up the alleyway to the park
walked up the mountainous field
to the top of the hill, and sat on the swings
I sat on these swings before on a deserted day
staring at the houses across the street
 wondering where everyone else was
 wondering where everyone lived

where are all the people now?
